The mural project in the Mobridge Auditorium was planned in the early 1940s as part of the WPA – Works Projects Administration

The Works Projects Administration (WPA) selects Oscar Howe as the artist for the mural project based on his mural color studies model:

Oscar Howe and the Saul Brothers begin work on the murals:

After two months, the murals are completed:

Almost 40 years later, Oscar Howe returned to Mobridge for a final visit with his early work:
